Local Announcements: Winners of the 2024 Science and Technology Fair in CMS

Chatham Middle School recently held its annual Science & Technology Fair, where students from grades six through eight showcased their scientific and technological skills. The fair took place in the school gym and featured entries from each grade level. The winners were announced at the end of the event, with Miles Schuster taking home first place for the sixth grade, Jack Galvin for seventh grade, and Lucy Tassinari and Logan Van Wie for eighth grade.

The students participating in the fair developed a hypothesis or technical problem and used either the Scientific Method or Problem Solving Method to test their theories or find solutions. The judging was done by Chatham’s high school and middle school science and technology faculty during the school day, with classes visiting to view the projects. The fair was also open to the public in the evening, allowing community members to see firsthand what these young scientists were capable of.

Miles Schuster investigated the impact of outside temperature on the efficiency of solar panels for his entry in sixth grade. Jack Galvin studied which fruit or vegetable contained the most energy in his seventh-grade project. Meanwhile, Lucy Tassinari and Logan Van Wie examined the effectiveness of various heat protectants in their eighth-grade entry. These students demonstrated a deep understanding of science and technology and should be proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations to all who participated!
