Switzerland’s economy is showing signs of improvement in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Swiss National Bank (SNB). The central bank highlighted that economic indicators pointed towards slightly more dynamic activity during this period.

The SNB noted that Switzerland had grown by 0.3% quarter-on-quarter in the final months of 2023, driven primarily by the service sector. Meanwhile, manufacturing continued to show stagnation. However, despite these challenges, the business outlook is improving as service sector firms expect continued robust growth, while manufacturing companies anticipate an increase in sales.

The SNB expressed concern over weak global demand and the challenges posed by the Swiss franc exchange rate for manufacturing companies facing pressure on margins due to limited pricing flexibility. Despite these challenges, the central bank cut its key interest rate for the first time in nine years last week.

Overall, Switzerland’s economy is showing promising signs of improvement with service sector driving economic growth and SNB closely monitoring key economic indicators to assess country’s performance.
