Spotify experiments with video-based educational courses in new content format

In the UK, Spotify is currently testing a new content option that allows users to purchase video-based courses on various topics. These courses, which are available in categories such as music creation, business, and healthy living, are being offered in partnership with educational technology companies like BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare, and Thinkific. Through this feature, users can access two free lessons per course as part of the test. Full access to all lessons on the platform’s website is also available for purchase.

Spotify has been continuously working to provide new experiences and types of content to its users. In addition to its existing offerings of music, podcasts, and audiobooks, it has recently introduced new subscription options in the United States for audiobooks. The company continues to expand its range of content by including video content like music videos in its Premium version.

With this new feature, Spotify aims to offer educational creators a new audience to access their video content while also providing users with more educational options beyond traditional audio formats. Approximately half of Spotify Premium subscribers have consumed podcasts with educational or self-help topics, indicating a strong interest in educational content among users. The courses will be accessible on both desktop and mobile versions of Spotify, allowing users to explore and purchase courses in different categories from anywhere at any time.
