In 2024, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) will honor six exceptional teachers with the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) for K-6th grade. The top-performing county public schools include Washington County Public Schools, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, Howard County Public Schools, and Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Dr. Carey M. Wright, Interim State Superintendent of Schools, expressed his gratitude to the finalists and praised their dedication to STEAM education. “I am honored to recognize Maryland’s six finalists for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching,” he said. “These outstanding teachers embody the ideals of innovation, dedication, and excellence in teaching.”

The PAEMST awards have been given out annually since 1983 by the United States government to recognize K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teachers who demonstrate both deep content knowledge of their subject matter and the ability to motivate students to succeed in those areas. This year’s state finalists represent the pinnacle of teaching excellence in Maryland’s counties and serve as a model for students and fellow educators alike.
