Arizona’s Health Services Department Successfully Retains National Accreditation

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) has maintained its national accreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board, a comprehensive evaluation that ensures the department continues to evolve and improve public health practices in the communities it serves. ADHS is one of over 400 nationally accredited health departments in the United States, a status it has held since 2017.

According to ADHS Executive Deputy Director Jennie Cunico, this reaccreditation is a testament to their commitment to exceptional standards throughout Arizona. “We are honored to continue holding this status alongside health departments in Maricopa, Mohave, Pima, and Yavapai counties, as well as the Pascua Yaqui Health Services Division,” said Cunico. “Maintaining this national accreditation allows us to ensure that we are meeting the highest standards in public health and providing quality services to the communities we serve.”

The Public Health Accreditation Board evaluates health departments against a set of national standards that cover areas such as governance, data collection and analysis, environmental health and safety, emergency preparedness and response, communication and education, program administration and management, and community engagement. Through this evaluation process, ADHS was able to identify areas for improvement and implement changes that have helped them maintain their accreditation status.

Overall, the reaccreditation of ADHS is an important milestone for the department and for public health in Arizona. It demonstrates their commitment to providing high-quality services to the communities they serve and their dedication to continuously improving their practices.
