New Jersey Poll: Business Community Optimistic about State’s Potential World Cup Benefits

The anticipation for the 2026 World Cup being held in New Jersey is still palpable, despite the event taking place more than two years from now. The state’s announcement that it would host the final match was met with excitement at the ReNew Jersey Business Summit & Expo in Atlantic City. An unscientific poll conducted during the event showed that nearly two-thirds of respondents viewed this news as the most significant story of 2024, outshining other options such as the proposed Corporate Transit Fund and the first lady’s effort to earn a U.S. Senate seat.

While hosting such a major sporting event can bring exposure to the state, it does not necessarily guarantee financial gain. Despite this, many survey respondents believe that New Jersey will benefit greatly from hosting the World Cup. Many expressed optimism about its potential economic impact and emphasized the importance of doing it right to maximize benefits.

Interestingly, despite optimism about the state benefiting from the World Cup, many respondents do not believe that their own businesses or organizations will personally profit from it on a personal level. Nearly half of those surveyed indicated that they do not expect their organizations to benefit from it on an individual level.

Lauren LaRusso, head of the NY/NJ Host Committee for New Jersey, emphasized their goal of ensuring that everyone in South Jersey, Central Jersey, and other regions of New Jersey would benefit from this global event. She explained that while some people may be focused solely on matches played at Meadowlands and New York City region; LaRusso highlighted how much broader impact this tournament has – reaching beyond these areas and bringing investment and development to places previously unexplored for mega-sporting events.

In conclusion, hosting such a major sporting event like 2026 FIFA World Cup in New Jersey is an exciting opportunity not just for fans but also for businesses looking to grow and expand their operations through increased exposure and potential economic gains.
