NBA Investigating Jontay Porter of the Raptors for Betting Irregularities: Report

The NBA is actively investigating Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for suspected betting irregularities, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Porter was withheld from the lineup for the Raptors’ matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night, and it remains uncertain how long he will be out.

The league has confirmed to ESPN that they are specifically looking into two recent games where there was unusual betting activity related to Porter’s prop bets. In a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 26, Porter played only four minutes and left the game due to an eye injury. He recorded no points, three rebounds, one assist, and did not attempt a 3-pointer, resulting in the under hitting on all four prop bet categories. The under on Porter’s 3-pointers was reportedly a significant win for bettors through DraftKings Sportsbook.

Another game under scrutiny is when the Raptors faced the Phoenix Suns on March 20. Porter played just three minutes before being ruled out due to illness, registering no points, two rebounds, and one missed shot. Once again, the under hit on all prop bet categories for Porter, proving to be a top money earner for bettors that night through DraftKings Sportsbook.

Porter did not participate in the Raptors’ game against the Washington Wizards over the weekend or versus the Nets due to personal reasons. NBA regulations strictly prohibit players and all league employees from betting on any NBA games or engaging in any form of prop betting.

Jontay Porter is currently in his debut season with the Raptors on a two-way contract after making his NBA debut with Memphis Grizzlies in 2020 and sitting out of play for two seasons prior to this season. He has averaged 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 26 games this season so far.

It is important to note that while there may be investigations into specific individuals or teams regarding potential violations of NBA rules, it does not mean they have been proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt until further evidence emerges or charges are filed against them.
