In the 2023-24 Premier League season, Manchester United faced a significant challenge with numerous injuries. The club recorded a total of 45 separate cases of injuries, which was the highest in more than 20 years according to research conducted by the Premier Injuries website. This is not just an isolated incident as many players from Old Trafford suffered from more than one injury during the season.

The impact of these injuries was evident throughout the course of the season, with 21 players being injured and resulting in a total of 1,620 days lost. This count did not include left-back Tyrell Malacia who was injured before the season began. However, it did include Lisandro Martinez who missed 214 days due to three separate injuries.

One of the biggest challenges faced by United was having Casemiro exposed as their makeshift centre-back at times. There were moments when the club had an entire starting XI out injured, highlighting how difficult it is for them to cope with numerous injuries. Erik ten Hag’s team was one of four clubs that had 11 players absent in a single game week, further emphasizing the severity of the situation.
