At the New York Auto Show, the Kia EV9 takes home the 2024 titles for World Car of the Year and World Electric Car.

In 2024, Kia made a comeback in the prestigious World Car of the Year competition with its EV9 winning both the top title and the World Electric Vehicle award. Meanwhile, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N secured the World Performance Car title.

Judged by a panel of one hundred automotive journalists from 29 countries, vehicles competing for the main prize must meet certain criteria, including having production exceeding 10,000 units annually, being available in at least two major global markets, and being priced below luxury options in their regions. The EV9 emerged victorious over competitors like BYD Seal and Volvo EX30 to take home the top title.

In addition to winning the electric vehicle category, the EV9 surpassed vehicles like BMW i5 and Volvo EX30. Other winners included BMW’s 5 Series and i5 for World Luxury Car, and Volvo’s EX30 for World Urban Car.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N stood out among 16 other performance cars to win its category, beating out contenders like M2 and XM. Surprisingly, Toyota Prius was also included as a finalist for World Car Design of the Year award and ultimately won it over Ford Bronco and Ferrari Purosangue.

Overall, it’s clear that Kia and Hyundai continue to dominate prestigious vehicle awards with their innovative electric vehicles.
