El Rio Grande Market’s Avocado Exhibit Breaks World Record with 86,000 Pounds.

The El Rio Grande Latin Market in Dallas recently made headlines for breaking a Guinness World Record with the largest fruit display. This achievement was reached by gathering an impressive 86,764 pounds of avocados. The market’s display consisted of 301,000 avocados and took 7 hours to set up.

To celebrate the Mexican-American cultural holiday Cinco de Mayo, which takes place on May 5th every year, the market teased the news leading up to the announcement and shared a time-lapse video of the workers setting up the impressive display at their location on Buckner Blvd. in Dallas. Once the record was officially set, the market proudly displayed their framed certificate from Guinness in the center of the avocado pile to celebrate their achievement.

Saleen Martin, a reporter on USA TODAY’s NOW team, covered this story. She is from Norfolk, Virginia, and can be followed on Twitter at @SaleenMartin or contacted via email at sdmartin@usatoday.com. The El Rio Grande Latin Market gave credit to their incredible display build team for their hard work in creating this record-breaking masterpiece. A photo of the team was shared on Facebook along with a message of gratitude for their efforts.
