In 2024, the Memorial Health Foundation awarded a $3,000 grant to support the American Red Cross’s Blood Saves Lives Fighting Cancer initiative. The grant was given in recognition of the critical role that the American Red Cross plays in patient care within the Health System and the region.

The American Red Cross collects blood throughout the entire area, not just within the Memorial Health System. This blood is processed and made available for patients fighting cancer when they need it. Blood transfusions can be crucial in the cancer treatment process, providing relief from symptoms of chemotherapy treatments. Julie Dye and Jill Deming presented the grant on behalf of the foundation at Memorial Health System’s first blood drive of 2024.

Sharon Kesselring, the executive director of the American Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, expressed excitement for the partnership with the Health System. “We are thrilled to be working with Memorial Health System to help those in need,” she said. “The American Red Cross is committed to providing lifesaving blood products to patients who need them most.”

The next Memorial Health Foundation grant cycle opens on July 1. More information can be found online at mhsystem.org/Foundation.
