Tatnuck Meat & Seafood shuts its doors in Worcester after half a century

Harvey Slarskey’s dedication to providing top-quality meats and seafood to his customers will be remembered as part of the store’s legacy. After 50 years in operation, the business, which was founded by Slarskey when he was in his 30s, has permanently closed its doors at 1100A Pleasant St.

Slarskey had previously worked in the cattle business before deciding to start his own store. The store was known for its high-quality products and customer service, with Slarskey building relationships with customers on a first-name basis. In 2011, the store added seafood to its name and product offerings, expanding to include fish and other types of seafood.

The decision to close was made due to declining business and health issues faced by longtime owner and founder Harvey Slarskey. His son Michael expressed gratitude to their customers over the years and acknowledged that 50 years in business is quite an accomplishment. Michael shared that the decision to close was a difficult one but that it was necessary due to changing neighborhood demographics and increased competition from other meat markets in the area.

Tatnuck Meat and Seafood catered mostly to customers in the nearby Tatnuck area, but as the neighborhood changed over the years, so did their customer base. Michael admitted that they had struggled to keep up with changing trends and consumer preferences, which ultimately led them to make the difficult decision to close down their beloved family business after five decades of serving their community.
